July 2018 Braking News
from the Rockland Bicycling Club

Here are Five Things to Know this month about riding in and around Rockland County.
  1. July 2018 RBC Meeting: Mixing bikes and cars on the road?  How does that work?  Chief William Barbera from the Rockland County Sheriff's Office will explain how the New York traffic code tries to keep all of us safe. Joining Chief Barbera will be attorney Jeff Adams, who serves on the Rockland County Traffic Safety Board. 7pm220 N Main St, New City.

  2. Saddle Up For These Rockin Rides:
  • Rockland Century. Ready for a challenge and a new goal for 2018? Put Sept 23 on your schedule to tackle one of the three routes (100, 64-mile, and 38 mile) rides planned for the Rockland County Century. We are looking for volunteers to help staff a sag wagon.
  • Ramapo Rally, Aug 19. BTCNJ. 12 miles to 125.
  • Orange County Bike Club – Sept 16. 10, 25, 42, and 64 mile rides out of Warwick, NY
  1. Bike History and Art Talk. Club President Mike Hays will give a talk on Edward Hopper and the French Six-Day Bicycle Rider at Nyack's Edward Hopper House Museum. Learn how Hopper's bicycling in Nyack in the 1890s as a teenager led to the creation of a little known 1935 painting of a famous bike rider at the popular Madison Square Garden six-day bicycle races. 7p, Aug 3 at 7:00p.

  2. Welcome new members, Mitch Liner, Iris Cognevich, and Dan Lipper -- and thanks to everyone who renewed last month. If you have been thinking about renewing and can't quite get around to it, here's a little motivation: rates go up for seniors, students and families beginning August 1. Visit RocklandBike.org and login to renew with a lower rate before it goes away!

  3. August is time to Play Ball with the Rockland Boulders and hangout with your RBC bike mates. Email RocklandBike@gmail.comto sign up for the Rockland Bicycling Club night out at Palisades Credit Union Park on Wed Aug 15

This month's Rockland Cycling Feature: He's been leading rides from Nyack since 1972, and he's famous for his warm smile and unlimited inventory of stories about bicycling. Read all about Jim Skelley, owner of Nyack Bicycle Outfitters, written by Mike Hays.

Help Wanted! The RBC is seeking volunteers to help us with this newsletter and our website. Also, we are always looking for new ride leaders and newrides and routes, too! Email rocklandbike@gmail.com to get involved. Until then, Ride Safe!
