The Gems of Northern Westchester - Multi-Club Ride

Sun, June 10, 2018 9:00 AM

Croton Point Park,
1A Croton Point Avenue, Croton-on-Hudson, NY 10520

Ride with members of 7 neighboring bicycle clubs* for a beautiful day on your bike.

Based out of Croton Point Park, the route showcases the best of Northern Westchester, including spectacular views of the Hudson River, historic bridges, marinas, forests, alpacas, and family farms on quiet back roads. Stop for a photo at the architectural marvel that is the New Croton Dam. Enjoy a short stretch on the historic North County Trailway across the Croton Reservoir. Return to Croton Point Park for a picnic lunch.

You must register by June 6. There is a $10 fee to cover the cost of lunch at the end.

Not a member of Rockland Bicycling Club yet? Take advantage of this special opportunity to join the club and ride with us on June 10th — and all year long.  Select 'New Membership + Lunch' in the dropdown below by June 6.

Lunch with friends after The Gems

There are three routes at varying distances and elevations. All the routes are hilly, which is unavoidable given Croton Point Park’s location near sea level along the Hudson; all roads from the river involve climbing. Expect your pace to be one mph slower than normal. The last few miles are mostly downhill. Two convenience opportunities are marked. Final GPS routes and cue sheets will be sent to registrants before the event.

●Short ** (28 miles, 2,000 feet)

●Medium (50 miles, 3,700 feet)

●Long (59 miles, 4,200 feet)

The goal is to ride with members of other clubs. It will be a staggered start with groups of 10-15, each with a leader, leaving when they are ready starting at 9:00a. Signs will be posted at varying speeds, and distances.  Riders will assemble at the sign of their chosen distance and pace, for example, 50 miles @15 MPH.

WCC has contracted with local Giovanni’s Deli for a simple cold lunch of sandwiches and side salads for riders.  Lunch will be at a covered pavilion inside the park adjacent to the parking area. Lunch will be available from noon on.

         $10 in Croton Point Park at the staging area;
$ 5 at Croton Harmon Station (a short bike ride to the start).
The lunch fee for Rockland Bicycling Club members is $10. You MUST register by June 6 and sign in with an RBC representative on site.

There is no rain date. The Multi-club Ride Committee will decide if conditions do not permit a ride.

*The clubs participating are Westchester Cycle Club, New York Cycle Club, Bicycle Touring Club of North Jersey, Sound Cyclists, Ridgefield Bicycle Sports Club, Rockland Bicycling Club, Long Island Bicycle Club, and Orange County Bicycle Club.

** Note: the 28-mile route doesn’t go to the marinas, the North County Trailway or the alpacas, and it does not include a rest stop, although a safe place to regroup and take a short break has been noted on the 28-mile cue sheet.
