Emily, Ian, Leo, and I met at David's for the start of the ride.  The day's heat hadn't set in yet, so we enjoyed the frequent shade on the ride over to Pearl River.

As we crossed the line into NJ, Emily's competitive nature came to the fore and she attacked the three Blue Hill segments aggressively, earning herself second, third, and fourth in the QOM competitions.  And that's with very little recent riding -- wow.

We decided to stick with the usual route in the hope that the loose stone on Western Highway would be gone.  It was pretty good, so long as you stayed in the car-tire tracks.  Still, prudence dictated a slightly slower ride through there than usual.  In the spring it was turtles, now with summer it's chip seal.  Can't wait to see what fall brings for that stretch.

We finished the ride with around 40 miles at the advertised pace.  Over our chocolate milk at David's, Leo told us that this is the first time in recent memory that he has ridden two days in a row.  Still, he was smiling as he said he had enjoyed the day's challenges.  Hope to see him on a ride again soon.

Many thanks to Emily, Ian, and Leo for a fun morning on the bike, including a few fireworks.

    Steve
